Legal Recipients of information are continuously informed about findings gathered by the Slovak Information Service. The areas of activity of the Slovak Information Service stem from the objectives defined by the law. The main areas of its activities include the protection of the constitutional order and security of the Slovak Republic, protection of economic interests, international status and foreign-policy interests of the Slovak Republic, protection of state and official secrets and protection from the activities of foreign intelligence agencies. The protection of constitutional order and security of the Slovak Republic is the top priority of the counterintelligence activities of the service, while its special areas of interest include organized crime, proliferation of weapons, international and criminal terrorism, illegal migration, and various forms of social extremism. In monitoring the signs of racial, religious, national, social and other types of intolerance and discrimination the service pays attention mainly to the illegal organizations and groups with paramilitary activities. In the area of protection of the country's economic interests the Slovak Information Service analyses cases of asset stripping in organizations and enterprises, mainly those owned by the state and the National Property Fund, cases of privatization frauds, corruption and nepotism. It collects information regarding threats to the Slovak monetary system, mainly information on the production and distribution of counterfeit money and securities and on the existence of uncovered or suspicious securities. The SIS also participates in the fighting against money laundering, customs frauds and tax evasion. Protection of the international status and foreign policy interests of the Slovak Republic is the responsibility mainly of the Service's foreign intelligence, significant attention being paid to collecting the information on the activities abroad, directed against the interests and security of the Slovak Republic, and threatening Slovakia's foreign political and economic interests. We are talking mainly about monitoring the conflict areas with negative security, economic and humanitarian consequences for the Slovak Republic, monitoring the impact of foreign political crises on the political stability and economic development of Slovakia, monitoring complicated internal political and security situation in states with a highly unstable political, economic and social situation. In the area of the classified facts, the Slovak Intelligence Service monitors threats and assesses risks of classified information leakage. In compliance with the special law 215/2004 Col., the SIS takes part in carrying out vettings on personnel and industrial security of natural persons and legal entities proposed for the contact with classified information. The Slovak Information Service systematically evaluates information on the possible activities of foreign intelligence agencies with the aim to ensure the counterintelligence protection of the state interests of the Slovak Republic. |
